The Marshmallow Test Told Us Children With Self-Control Succeed. It Was Wrong.
The marshmallow test told us that children who delay gratification go on to succeed. A 2018 replication with 900 children found that once you control for socioeconomic background, the test predicts almost nothing. A child who waits is not necessarily more disciplined. They may simply live in a world where adults keep their promises.
